Health and Fitness Plan

If you are going to get the most out of your body, go the distance, and live a long, healthy life, you have to make an effort every day. Being fit and active, with a positive sense of well-being, doesn't happen by accident. It means be committed to taking care of yourself to improve your chances of enjoying the years ahead. You can actually slow the aging process when you take care of yourself, but it means paying close attention to diet and exercise along the way.

Stick with a Fitness Program

Exercise will become a habit if you include it in your life on a daily basis. You need to set aside a time that will work best, one when you are unlikely to become distracted or make excuses. Depending on your personality, you may do best when you are with a group of people or on your own. Regardless of what you do, whether you hit the gym, go for a run, or workout to a DVD in your living room, make sure you exercise at least thirty minutes, five times a week. You'll have even better results when you increase your length of time and number of days you exercise. Include strength training and exercise that will improve your cardiovascular health. If you prefer to exercise outside, always have something to fall back on if the weather doesn't cooperate. There's bound to be times when you can't work out, due to injury, illness, or special occasions. Get right back on schedule as soon as possible. Add variety as well to spice things up. Choose active pastimes that are truly enjoyable and fitness will not be a chore.

Manage Your Diet

You need to pay close attention to what you eat, including lean protein, healthy fats, fresh produce, and low-fat dairy products in your diet. The less processed food you eat, the better. Avoid foods that are high in fat, salt, and sugar. Keep your indulgences to a minimum and avoid excess alcohol. Think about portion control. Rather than eating three, large meals a day, try eating several, small meals. You'll regulate your blood sugar and improve your metabolism. Remember to use supplements to make up for any area of your diet that is lacking. Stay hydrated every day to flush your body of toxins and keep all systems working at optimal levels.

Don't Forget to Get Your Sleep

Sleep is essential for your well-being. It helps your body to refresh and recharge, repairing the damage that takes place every day. Solid, consistent periods of rest will also keep your energy levels up, improve your metabolism, and help you to maintain a healthy weight.
